The story begins in Lahore during a cold winter day. Gopal, a poor and unemployed man, is sitting in a park when he is approached by a wealthy man named Ajit Kumar. Gopal is stunned by their striking physical resemblance—they look almost like identical twins.
The Deceptive Offer
Ajit Kumar offers Gopal a "job" acting as his double. He pays Gopal handsomely to perform simple tasks while pretending to be him.
The First Task: Gopal sits in a restaurant near Ajit’s wife, Poonam, to establish an alibi while the real Ajit is elsewhere.
The Second Task: Gopal takes Ajit’s car to a specific garage for repairs and stays there for several hours, ensuring that the garage staff and manager witness "Ajit Kumar" being present between specific times.
The Criminal Plot Revealed
Gopal later reads in the newspaper that a businessman named Raj Kapoor was murdered. Because of Gopal's actions at the garage, Ajit Kumar has a perfect, verified alibi, and the police drop him as a suspect.
Ajit eventually confesses to Gopal that he murdered Raj Kapoor because he was an obstacle to his promotion within a criminal organization. However, Ajit is now terrified because the victim was a close friend of Kala Naag, a powerful and ruthless underworld don who does not believe the alibi and is hunting Ajit for revenge.
The Final Betrayal
Ajit takes Gopal to a secluded cabin and forces him to swap clothes. His plan is to leave Gopal there to be killed by Kala Naag’s men, while Ajit escapes in a hidden jeep with 50 lakh rupees and a bag of diamonds to start a new life.
The "Unique Attack" (The Twist)
Gopal realizes that their resemblance is the only reason he is being framed for death. In a clever move, Gopal reveals his "unique attack": he removes artificial dentures and makes a slight change to his facial appearance that completely breaks the resemblance.
Seeing that the resemblance is gone and Gopal can no longer serve as a decoy, a panicked Ajit Kumar flees the cabin. In his haste and terror, Ajit makes a fatal mistake—he drives away in his own recognizable black car instead of the hidden jeep. While trying to escape, Ajit loses control of the car, crashes into a bridge, and dies.
Conclusion
Gopal finds the hidden jeep containing the 50 lakh rupees and the diamonds. Secure in the knowledge that Kala Naag’s men will assume Ajit Kumar died in the car crash, Gopal takes the wealth and begins a new, luxurious life, finally fulfilling the dreams he once only had in the park.
